Is God Separate from Religion? If Not, Which Religion Is True?

Religions all over the world seek to explain who or what God is and why we exist. But many say conflicting things about God. One religion says that God is holy; another says he is good and evil. But really, He can’t be both. So which is right? One religion says there is one God; another says there are many gods. But which belief is true? All things can’t be true at the same time (however adamant post-modernism may be that they are). Truth is true. Lies are false. And we have to choose what to believe.

I believe that God is one, infinite, all-powerful Being. There is no other God besides Him. Yet while God is inseparably one, He is in three persons (the Trinity): Father God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The Bible is God’s inspired Word to humanity, and from it we learn the truth about everything. Human science and logic, indeed, all of the physical world and universe around us is evidence that God is the Creator of all. It is beautifully planned, wonderfully executed, and perfectly intricate, so the Creator of all this must be astoundingly clever. The fact that plants, animals, and humans reproduce at all is a miracle of miracles. Only the highest, most holy, wonderful Being could have thought of that and written it into our DNA.

I was raised in a Christian home, and so it certainly has been reinforced as truth in my life from a young age. But my parents never coerced me into believing; they never made me do anything faith related. I was by myself when I chose to believe in Christ. I prayed alone and believed in Jesus, and He revealed Himself to me from that point on. He reveals Himself through the Bible and through the Holy Spirit who lives inside of me (I’ll address this concept more fully in a later post).

My belief in inherent human sin is based in the creation story about Adam & Eve. The Bible tells us that Adam’s “one trespass led to condemnation for all men,” and “by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners…” (Romans 5:18, 19). As a Protestant, I believe that Jesus Christ is my only mediator with God. Though there are many saints who have lived before me, I don’t pray to any of them, nor do I need a priest to speak to God on my behalf. This is the beauty of believing in Christ: Through Jesus, God made a way for me to be in right relationship with Him. I have unhindered access to Him. I don’t want to believe in anything that puts an obstacle in my way, that makes it difficult to know God. Jesus paid the price for my sin, and now I don’t have to be separated from Him anymore.

Rad post Mandy! This line from your post is pretty awesome: “It is beautifully planned, wonderfully executed, and perfectly intricate, so the Creator of all this must be astoundingly clever.”

    very nice Mandy!
I think this is a good idea about god. one of the best things that you write is: “but my parents never coerced me into believing…” this is important, because everyone should discover facts about God as a freethinker.
and this is true that you don’t need a priest to speak to God because a priest isn’t completely guiltless like Jesus. this way is true in other religions, mean that everybody should follow his/her prophet in his religion, not something that religious say about him…
I think that every religion or manner that help human to be better and have more beautiful life, is a good religion. but a religion or manner that make people enemy, or say that you should kill everybody that don’t accept your believes!!! is a bad and illogical manner.
this is a very important subject, but our knowledge is limited, and we should increase our knowledge and perception to understand better about god and the universe…
