Think Global, Craft Local
SuperNaturale as a name totally belies the true nature of the website. But regardless, I’m about to be addicted. This site was made for me.
Designers Accord
We now have a Kyoto protocol for designers. Delight. I totally want in.
New Texas Plates, BOO
Just got back from my home state, and I must say, the new license plates are yucky. The previous iteration was classy and full of Texas spirit, whereas the new, digitally produced design looks like a bad Photoshop job. Why do we feel the need to change something perfectly beautiful just because of new technology?
Angst at the Digital World
As an artist, I have spent the last 13 years of my life as a photographer. Film, darkrooms, smelly chemicals, stained clothes and all. The aspect of analog photography that has become DEEPLY ingrained in me is the archival nature of the medium (black & white and polaroid, that is). I would go so far as to say that I am obsessed with things being archival––i.e. they will last, in good condition, for 100+ years. I will not wall-paper our home, ever, for this reason.
But digital media is not archival. I can be sitting in the same room with files that I have lovingly saved on a hard drive, but the files are lost forever because the hard drive will mount on no computer. Did I DO anything to lose the files? No. Was there a fire in my house? No. Time happened. Corruption happened. And don’t think that backing everything up on DVDs will save the day, because they can be corrupted too. They won’t tell you they’re about to do it. My only hope is to print out everything I create, which completely defeats the purpose of going digital. So then really, what’s the point??
Shipra Panosian
My friend Shipra has become an amazing photographer. LOVE her sense of color.
Igor & Andre Fashion Illustrations
Danny Roberts draws for a living. When he was five, he “convinced [himself] that pouring mud onto cardboard was how to make concrete.” Reminds me of the time my friend Tori’s brother and I tried to make a bomb by attaching a string fuse to a rubbing alcohol-filled tennis ball. It didn’t work, thank God.
Puppet Kafka
“There are people who love puppets, there are people who love Kafka, and there is almost certainly a subset of people who love both puppets and Kafka.” Does it get any more beautifully said than that? I submit that it does not.

Land Mine Photography
Friends Allan E. Schoening and Blessing Marie are in a contest to shoot their dream assignment, raising awareness for land mine atrocities, but they need our votes to stay in the top 20 and be considered for the $50,000 grant. The project has even been picked up on the UN’s blog (!). Here’s the info on registration and voting. Thanks for your help!
